The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery was created from department of surgery on 30th October 2012. Since its creation the department is functioning independently and we are doing all types of closed heart, General Thoracic, video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and vascular surgery. We are providing teaching and training to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as we are involved in training of paramedical students. Since our inception we have expanded our repertoire of surgery and recently started peripheral bypass surgery with good results. We are trying to start open heart surgery soon so that protocol based cardiac surgery services become available in our hospital at affordable cost. Annually we have footfall of 3000 patients in Out Patient Department (OPD) and we are performing around 200- 250 surgeries per year. We have allotted strength of 19 beds in patient department (IPD) which are occupied most of the times with average 600- 800 admissions per year.

We have two faculty members Prof. M. H. Beg a senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Dr. Mohd. Azam Haseen working as Assistant Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Our vision for future is to start M.Ch. Cardiothoracic Surgery Course and make our department a centre for excellence where surgeons can get trained in this difficult art of surgery and serve humanity.
